Overview:Oral Premarin and Premarin Contraception (conjugated estrogens) Tablets are formulated as either premarin (conjugated estrogens) or pre-menopausal estrogens. OTC products are intended for use after menopause and can be bought over-the-counter.
The active ingredient in oral Premarin is estradiol. It is a natural compound that has been clinically studied as a potential progestogen.
Premarin is a conjugated estrogens product derived from the urine of pregnant mares. It has been shown to have minimal systemic absorption and is therefore not considered bioequivalent to estrogen.
Premarin is a prescription medication. It should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare provider. It is intended for oral administration and should only be taken under the close medical supervision of a healthcare professional.
Premarin should not be used in women who are pregnant or may become pregnant because of its potential to cause birth defects in the unborn child.
